in winter..

.. it's like drinking black coffee trying to stay warm and keeping the cold out. the rain falls, the wind blows. some of you even get to see snow.

in autumn..

.. it's a backyard in the suburbs, and hundreds leaves covering the green grass.

in summer..

.. it's a night-time thing. out on the balcony (porch) with some beers and your friends.

in spring..

.. it's the hope for a brighter day.

Sam Shinazzi
Then I Held My Breath

I’m gonna hold my hand up and admit that until this record landed with me I hadn’t heard of Sam Shinazzi. Apparently his regular band T-Bone all helped out in the recording process, to make this his third full length recording.

Despite no prior knowledge of him though I'm instantly impressed by Then I Held My Breath, it opens with a track that reminds me of mid 90’s stuff from The Lemonheads (a good thing) and that sound and edge to his voice that pulls him nearer to Evan Dando is repeated on Walking.

In between and after those tracks though you get a lot of really warm, rich americana, soulful, sunshine filled powerpop and a set of songs that are generally really well constructed from start to finish in both the music and in his vocal performance.

An excellent body of work he’s certainly on my radar now.
