in winter..

.. it's like drinking black coffee trying to stay warm and keeping the cold out. the rain falls, the wind blows. some of you even get to see snow.

in autumn..

.. it's a backyard in the suburbs, and hundreds leaves covering the green grass.

in summer..

.. it's a night-time thing. out on the balcony (porch) with some beers and your friends.

in spring..

.. it's the hope for a brighter day.

Stories You Wouldn't Believe

On the shelves for a month or two already, Sam Shinazzi’s third release (previous records have been
issued under the C-Minus Project moniker) is still worth a mention. On Stories You Wouldn’t Believe the Sydney singer/songwriter presents a collection of honest everyday tales that, more often than not, charm with their directness and pop smarts.

Fans of The Mabels will especially lap this up, such is Shinazzi’s knack for breezy melodies. Piano and country-tinged lead guitar colour the tunes but never clutter space unnecessarily. Opener Breakdown’ employs wordplay to great effect in its chorus, while Until Sunrise’ is a tale of a messy break-up cured temporarily by drink. Elsewhere, highlights come via the electric Game Over’ and slow-building closer Trying Not To Think About It’.

Pleasant pop with a dark undercurrent, Shinazzi purges more than a few personal demons on Stories You
Wouldn’t Believe. It might not always be uplifting, but at least it’s honest.
