The C-Minus Project
I'm very relaxed now, which is perfect. The C-Minus Porject I must confess, are a favourite of mine. Sam Shinazzi, the core member and songwriter of this revolving lineup, has an ear for pretty melodies from the less-is-more school of songwriting. The stripped-back nature of his songs allow the honesty and basic emotion in his lyrics to come through. Tonight, accompanied in varying degrees by two of the members of Grace Emily: one on electric geetar and one on keys, Sam strums quietly just left of centre-stage. Tonight's set is sadly moving. Songs about boys and girls, friends and family, work and play and the darkness that lurks in the suburbs that many of us hipster duffuses came from, but might try to deny at one time or another. Ben Fletcher (Bluebottle Kiss) steps up with acoustic guitar for a Scud Mountain Boys cover. I'd rather hear a C-Minus song, though. Tonight's set may seem a bit hard for those in the 'Saturday Night' frame of mind, but for those willing to give half as much as those on stage, it's like stealing a kiss from that special boy or girl you've had your eye on for some time, it is so worth the effort.
